SPGPrints migrates its US organization to SAP ECC with McCoy

Following a change in organizational structure, SPGPrints, a specialist in printing solutions for industrial markets, saw the need to simplify its ERP landscape. The US organization was still working with SAP Business One, while the Dutch organization in Boxmeer was using SAP ECC. Running two systems side by side meant additional maintenance, fragmented knowledge and more complex consolidation.

SPGPrints therefore decided to migrate its US organization to SAP ECC. Not only to reduce costs and risks, but above all to create one shared foundation for the future.

More than a technical migration

The project was more complex than a standard migration. Both the Dutch and the U.S. organizations brought along twenty years of history, including their own processes, product codes, language differences, and decisions that had made sense at the time but no longer fully aligned with the way the business operates today. In addition, the transition required users to adapt to new ways of working in their day-to-day activities.

“We didn’t know exactly what we were going to encounter. The systems contained twenty years of history, with decisions that made perfect sense at the time but no longer always fit the way the business operates today.”

How McCoy contributed

Projectmanagement was handled from the Netherlands, while the functional consultants were based in Spain. The key stakeholders were located in the United States.

This international setup required close alignment. The start was not without its challenges: due to the complexity of the legacy environment and the handover to an international team, it took time to establish clear roles and ownership. That experience underlined just how important direction, communication and trust are in a project like this.

As the project progressed, the collaboration grew stronger. The Spanish consultants brought strong technical expertise and quickly immersed themselves in the processes of the US organization. The Dutch project lead monitored progress, budget and the connection between the teams. That combination proved highly valuable.

“What stood out was the quality of the Spanish consultants. They had a lot of technical knowledge and often understood complex issues remarkably quickly. Sometimes they only needed half a word to understand what was required.”

A flexible path to go-live

During the project, it became clear that a successful go-live is not only about technical readiness. The organization also needed to be sufficiently prepared to embrace the new way of working. SPGPrints therefore decided to take extra time for final preparations and user support.

“Technically, we might have been able to go live on 1 January, but the business was not ready yet. Looking back, postponing the go-live to 1 May was a very good decision.”

More visibility, more confidence

With the migration to SAP ECC, SPGPrints now works from one shared foundation. Colleagues in Boxmeer and the United States are better able to find each other, processes have become more visible and day-to-day work has become calmer and more structured. For end users, the transition took some getting used to. But because there is now one way of working, confidence is growing and collaboration has become easier.

In that sense, the project reflects what Work Smart, Be Happy stands for: working smarter by connecting systems and teams more effectively, and working together with greater enjoyment because daily work has become clearer and more manageable.

"What makes me most proud of this project is the people behind it. Marijn and Rens brought an incredible level of expertise, dedication, and energy throughout the entire journey, while our Spanish teams consistently demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, and outstanding collaboration.
