Stedin aims to achieve 100% material availability (OTIF). This is crucial to accelerate the expansion of grid capacity, reduce grid congestion, and ultimately resolve it completely.
To achieve this ambition, a new central warehouse was opened in Vianen in June 2025. This warehouse complements the existing central warehouse in Rotterdam and marks an important step in improving the logistics chain. Most materials have already been transferred to Vianen, a move that required a total of 360 truck trips.
The new warehouse in Vianen is no less than six times larger than the one in Rotterdam, with an impressive area of 38,000 m². Approximately 5,000 different materials are stored there.
To gain better control over material deliveries, Stedin opted for SAP EWM Advanced. For transport planning, SAP TM is used.
The EWM system has been completely redesigned to align with the operations in Vianen. The approach to transport planning has fundamentally changed compared to the practices in Rotterdam, where SAP TM was hardly used. In Vianen, SAP TM is now fully integrated with EWM via SAP’s “Advanced Shipping and Receiving” solution. This integration enables a much more efficient workflow and establishes a new standard.
The Go-Live in June 2025 went almost flawlessly. The few issues that arose were quickly resolved. During the Go-Live week, there were many happy faces—a clear sign that the preparation was thorough and all scenarios were well-tested before going live. In the first week, users suggested a few minor improvements, which have already been implemented, contributing to an even more efficient working environment.
In short: a highly successful Go-Live in Vianen, with optimized processes and a solid foundation for further improvements. The next step is to optimize the warehouse in Rotterdam, fully leveraging the knowledge and experience gained in Vianen.
