Repeatable Data Migrations with AI

In every SAP S/4HANA implementation, data migration begins with the same challenge: which data do we migrate, where does it come from, and how do we ensure that everyone works with the same assumptions? In practice, this requires a lot of manual work, and valuable knowledge from previous projects is insufficiently reused.

For this challenge, we developed the Smart Data Platform (SDP).

"Why start over each time when you can learn from previous migrations? AI helps capture, reuse, and convert project knowledge into a consistent data dictionary."

This solution connects functional scope, migration scope, migration objects, SAP templates, and historical project knowledge into one repeatable approach. Based on a validated list of objects, the platform automatically generates a consistent data dictionary and supports migration consultants with substantiated proposals for the appropriate migration method.

AI that learns from previous migrations

The Smart Data Platform combines project knowledge, analytics, and AI into one intelligent workflow. This ensures that knowledge from previous implementations is not rebuilt but directly used as a starting point for new projects.

The solution supports, among other things:

  • determining which objects are within scope and which are not;

  • generating a consistent data dictionary;

  • making AI-supported proposals for migration methods;

  • the automatic capture of project knowledge for building the solution

The consultant always maintains control. AI supports the process with recommendations, after which the proposals are reviewed and validated before being implemented. The solution is secure. Business data is never shared with AI.

Smarter data migrations, less manual work

By systematically documenting and reusing project knowledge, insights into scope, ownership, sources, and transformation complexity are gained earlier. This prevents manual copying between Excel files, reduces redesign per project, and ensures consistent data dictionaries and reproducible transformation flows.

Business, IT, and the migration team work from the same validated list of objects. This creates more room for substantive choices and data quality, while significantly reducing repetitive preparatory work.

From Project Knowledge to a Learning Platform

This showcase demonstrates that AI not only accelerates processes but also helps organizations learn more intelligently from previous projects. Each implementation builds on existing knowledge and enriches the platform with new insights.

The most important lesson? A successful data migration does not start with loading data, but with a well-thought-out migration process in which knowledge, standardization, and AI reinforce each other. This makes data migrations more predictable, efficient, and better repeatable.
