SAP Analytics Cloud QRC3 2026 – AI Integration & New Chart Types

SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) is SAP’s cloud-based Business Intelligence platform that provides a range of analytics and reporting tools. It is a fast-evolving product, which gets updated frequently.
In this blog, Kris van Brouwershaven takes you through the main takeaways from the latest release for SAP Analytics Cloud: QRC Q3 2026-release, which happened on August 15th & 16th, 2026.

Note: This blog will keep Enterprise Planning out of scope.

AI Integration

With this release, a few AI-additions were introduced:

  • AI-Assisted Prompt Insights
You can add an AI prompt widget that combines a custom prompt with data from a chart or table, allowing users to generate contextual insights, summaries, and risk assessments without leaving the Story.

  • AI Assisted Story Code Generation
Create or understand Story scripts faster using AI.
Simply describe the desired functionality in natural language to generate script logic, or ask AI to explain existing scripts!

  • Data and Analytics Insights Agent
By combining user questions, business context, and data patterns, SAC can generate Stories with relevant visualizations, trend analysis, and actionable insights.
This enables both business users and designers to move from questions to decisions more quickly, without requiring deep technical knowledge.

3 new chart types!

The Funnel Chart helps you visualize stages in a process, like conversions or pipeline steps.

The Gauge Chart helps you track KPIs instantly, making performance easy to understand at a glance. And the Sankey Chart brings flows and relationships to life, showing how values move between stages or categories.

These new chart types give you more ways to build powerful, intuitive and visually strong data stories in SAC.

Custom widgets library

Extend your dashboards with the new Custom Widgets Library.
Story designers can now discover, preview, and install additional visualizations beyond the standard chart types, without needing development or external hosting.
With built-in metadata checks, security validation, and approval workflows, custom widgets can be added quickly while maintaining enterprise standards.

Note – this was already available, but with this release it became easier to navigate.

Configure the default theme

If your organization utilizes Themes and Templates in SAC, your admin can now change the default theme when building a dashboard.
This ensures all dashboards built are according to your organization’s theme, since it enforces brand consistency from the get-go!

An addition we’re waiting for: configuring a template (or in SAC-terminology: a layout) that automatically gets used when building a new dashboard/page on a dashboard.

Lazy Loading of Table Columns

Large tables are now more efficient thanks to Lazy Loading. When a table contains more columns than fit on the screen, SAC will only load the columns that are currently visible. Additional columns are retrieved as users scroll horizontally, reducing unnecessary processing and significantly improving performance for wide, data-heavy tables.

Quick Builder availability in Widgets

Self-service reporting becomes more flexible with this enhancement. Previously, runtime editing through the Quick Builder was only available for tables. With this release, the capability has been expanded to other widgets, allowing users to change dimensions and measures directly while viewing a Story. This enables more personalization of managed dashboards without changing the underlying report or relying on Self Service-reports.

Note – you’ll need to turn it on per widget:

Data Analyzer Improvements

With this release, the following improvements are delivered:

  • Add multiple hyperlinks to table
Assign dimensions to hyperlinks and only show the hyperlink when the dimension is in use.

  • Ability to save insights without preselecting mandatory prompts
You get the option to use the selected prompt-values, but also to override them.

  • Option to display the ID of measures on table

  • Support for story dynamic filters in interoperability flows
If your story has certain filters applied, the Data Analyzer will use those. With this functionality, you can change them.
For example: if your story uses a Date-filter, your Data Analyzer File was unable to divert from the date filter. Now it can!

Honorable Mentions

  • Search-and-replace filter functions

  • Updated Select Data dialog

  • Data and Analytics Insights Agent

  • Export to Excel functionality: retain cell formatting as true value type

  • Support for building table widgets through a drag-and-drop experience
